As a police officer, daily your mind is on a number of things related to the tasks needed. One thing you should consider is preparing yourself for your future. This means making yourself more employable and not just employed. This means preparing yourself for being in place for promotion to the next rank or your career after retirement. This involves some plan on how to accomplish that goal.

This session reviews steps that you can take to ensure you are considered for that next step within the organization. If you plan for the future and prepare for advancement, there is no guarantee that you will be promoted, but failure to plan may exclude you from consideration. Included will be topics such as

training and education to advance yourself, marketing yourself with your resume and cover letter, preparing for the application and testing process, and interviewing.

This session provides insights from some who have “been there, done that” in the law enforcement area. Speakers on the panel include:

Paulette Laubsch, Ph.D., Professor and Panel Moderator, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Paul Cell, IACP Past President and Board Member

Ray Davis, Retired Chief of Police, Egg Harbor Township

Bub Kovacs, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Fairleigh Dickinson University

William McKnight, Retired Captain, Atlantic City Police Department
